How does Kalp Alloys export piping material from India?

Material is manufactured at Ahmedabad, inspected and released, packed seaworthy in strapped bundles or ISPM-15 heat-treated cases, and shipped through Mundra, Kandla or Nhava Sheva. The document set covers the mill test certificate, invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and bill of lading.

Key Takeaways

  • Loading ports are Mundra and Kandla for GCC, African and European sailings, and Nhava Sheva for long-haul routings.
  • Packing is seaworthy as standard, with ISPM-15 heat-treated and marked wooden cases where timber is used.
  • Every package is marked with the heat number so it can be matched to its certificate on arrival.
  • FOB, CFR, CIF and DAP are quoted on request so the buyer can compare landed cost rather than ex-works price.
  • Third-party inspection is witnessed at our Ahmedabad plant before packing, not after shipment.
  • Air freight is quoted separately where material is needed against a shutdown window.

The sequence, from enquiry to arrival

  1. Enquiry. Send grade, size or NPS range, rating or schedule, quantity, certification level and destination. A quotation is typically returned within 24 hours.
  2. Order confirmation. The proforma invoice states the specification, incoterm, lead time and document set, so nothing is left to interpretation.
  3. Manufacture. Production at Rakhial, Ahmedabad, with the heat number recorded against the order from the melt onward.
  4. Inspection. In-house dimensional and material inspection, plus third-party witnessing by SGS, BV, TUV or Lloyds where the project requires it — carried out before packing.
  5. Documentation. The EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 certificate is issued with test results, dimensional report and heat traceability.
  6. Packing and marking. Seaworthy packing, with each package marked to match its certificate.
  7. Shipment. Movement to Mundra, Kandla or Nhava Sheva, customs clearance, loading and issue of the bill of lading.
  8. Document dispatch. The full set is couriered and emailed so clearance at destination is never waiting on paper.
02

Packing standards

Piping material fails in transit for two reasons: moisture and movement. Packing addresses both.

  • Flanges are stacked on edge or face, strapped in bundles, with faces protected and machined surfaces coated against corrosion.
  • Pipe is bundled and strapped, with plastic end caps fitted to keep the bore clean and protect weld preparations.
  • Fittings are packed in wooden cases or steel-strapped pallets according to size and weight.
  • Fasteners are packed in sealed cartons or drums, marked with grade and size.
  • Wooden cases are heat-treated and ISPM-15 marked so they clear phytosanitary inspection at destination.
  • Every package carries the order number, item description, heat number and net and gross weight.

Heat number marking on the package is the detail that saves time at the far end. It lets a receiving store match material to certificate without opening every case.

03

Ports, transit and incoterms

Routing is chosen on destination and on which sailing gives the shorter door-to-door time, not on which port is nearest to us.

Indicative loading ports and sea transit by destination. Transit is port to port and excludes production and clearance.
Destination Loading port Indicative sea transit
UAE — Jebel Ali Mundra 7 to 10 days
Oman — Sohar, Salalah Mundra 6 to 9 days
Qatar — Hamad Mundra 8 to 12 days
Kuwait — Shuwaikh, Shuaiba Mundra 9 to 13 days
Saudi Arabia — Dammam, Jeddah Mundra 10 to 14 days
Singapore, Malaysia Nhava Sheva 10 to 16 days
South Africa — Durban Mundra / Nhava Sheva 18 to 24 days
United Kingdom — Felixstowe Nhava Sheva / Mundra 20 to 26 days
United States — Houston Nhava Sheva / Mundra 22 to 30 days
Nigeria — Lagos, Onne Mundra / Nhava Sheva 25 to 32 days

FOB, CFR, CIF and DAP are quoted on request. Quoting on a delivered basis is usually more useful to a buyer comparing an Indian manufacturer against a local stockist, because it puts both on a landed-cost footing rather than comparing an ex-works price against a delivered one.

04

The document set

Documents travel with the shipment rather than following it. The standard set is:

  • EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 mill test certificate with chemical and mechanical results and heat number traceability — see mill test certificate.
  • Dimensional inspection report against the ordered standard.
  • Commercial invoice and packing list, itemised and matched to the package marking.
  • Certificate of origin.
  • Bill of lading or airway bill.
  • Third-party inspection release note where applicable.
  • NACE MR0175 compliance statement with hardness results on sour-service orders.
  • Any market-specific attestation or pre-shipment inspection certificate the destination requires.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mundra and Kandla for GCC, African and European sailings, and Nhava Sheva for long-haul and consolidated routings including the United States and South East Asia.

Around 7 to 10 days port to port from Mundra to Jebel Ali on a direct sailing. Production lead time and customs clearance are additional, and air freight is quoted for urgent shutdown requirements.

Seaworthy packing as standard: strapped bundles with protected faces and coated machined surfaces, plastic end caps on pipe, and heat-treated ISPM-15 marked wooden cases where timber is used. Each package is marked with the heat number.

FOB, CFR, CIF and DAP on request, so the buyer can compare landed cost against a local supplier rather than comparing an ex-works price with a delivered one.

Yes. SGS, BV, TUV and Lloyds inspection is witnessed at our Ahmedabad plant before packing, and the release note is issued with the EN 10204 3.2 certificate.

They are not sent after the shipment. The full set is couriered and emailed at dispatch so clearance at destination is never waiting on paperwork.
